jMax is a visual programming environment for building interactive real-time musical and multimedia applications by allowing the user to interactively design dataflow circuits. The basic data types that can go through are integers, symbols, lists, etc. It is an event-driven system and has been used for MIDI processing. A second part of the system (DSP) allows a continuous signal to flow through a circuit, which is most useful for PCM sound (ie. microphone, sound files, etc.). The system is extensible by using shared libraries, you may add data processor types, data types, GUI elements, device types, and more. Data processors may also be designed as circuits and reused.

rmp3 is a receiver for the rmp3 broadcast
protocol. This protocol uses teletext data
transmitted in the VBI (vertical blanking
interval) of TV transmissions to broadcast MP3
files. It is compatible with RadioMP3 and the
German MegaRadio. You can listen to the
audio stream, save the received files, or both.

Tk Ecasound is a frontend for Ecasound. It has the
look of a multitrack recorder. It supports Ladspa
plugins, multiple devices inputs/outputs, and
multiple effects.

Liquidsoap is a powerful tool for building complex audio streaming systems, typically targetting Internet radio stations. It consists of a simple script language, which has a first-class notion of source (basically a stream) and provides elementary source constructors and source compositions from which you can build the streamer you want. There is no constraint on the streams, in contrast to many other tools which can only stream one file after another. Moreover, it is not restricted to a single stream. Finally, it interfaces well with external tools.

RecordMMS is a script that records an MMS (Windows
Media Audio) or RTSP (RealAudio) stream to disk as
an MP3. It should work with anything that mplayer
can play. Combined with cron, it could be used as
a digital "VCR" for Internet radio.

Audio::Xmpcr is a Perl API to the XM PCR Satellite radio.
It offers two different operating modes (direct and
remote+daemon) via a single interface, continuous
device polling for instant, accurate song listings, auto
notification when songs change on any channel, and a
few utility programs including a Web interface for remote
control/listening to the radio via icecast, a stream ripper
that divides songs up into properly-named wav files (for
making MP3s), and a finder that searches channels for
the song(s) wanted, and records just those.

Recording level monitor records analog audio from
the sources you choose and plays it back
simultaneously so that you can hear it, while
monitoring the loudness (input) level of the
recording. You'll be able to hear and see whether
the volume is too high (introducing analog
distortion and digital clipping) or too low
(letting through background noise and hiss) on
your audio gear.
